August Listens.

Aesop Rock – ‘Skeleton’

Aesop Rock brings the goods again in his latest release.

Nas- Life is good

Thanks to all the drama with his divorce from Kelis ( Fuck yes! She’s single again) and issues with his daughter involving twitter and condoms. Nas finally drops a decent album again and you can hear in his music that he has found the passion again for rapping.

Iggy Azalea- Glory EP

If you can get past her over acting of the American accent you will find that she actually has some decent flow to her. The production also is first class and you will no doubt find your self  bopping your head to this.

SpaceGhostPurrp – Mysterious Phonk

I love SGP!! Great dark and gloomy album from this independent rapper.

If you like the sounds of his friend/ ex friend/ now worst enemy A$AP Rocky then you need to grab this quick!

Frank Ocean – Channel ORANGE

You NEED this album. It’s that good.

FN X ARTIST SHOWCASE

Next month will see us roll out a project that we have been working on for the last few months.

Each month on the blog we will feature a new creative artist that i admire and respect.

Each week we will showcase work from the chosen artist and also a Q & A.

At the end of the month we will then post up a link to our ebay account where you can bid on an one of kind artwork especially made for FN.

All proceeds  from the auction will go to the charity foundation Inspire more specifically their sub-charity Reach Out

Reach Out is a website created to help tackle the growing number of teen suicides and depression.

Here is the Inspire foundations mission statement.

MIXTAPE REVIEW: GAME CALIFORNIA REPUBLIC

Game ( Dropped the ‘The’ after Triple H from WWE sued him) releases his latest mixtape ‘California Republic’.

Now Game isn’t really my type of rapper but i don’t mind checking out his mixtapes from time to time. The problem i have with Game as a rapper is he just names drops way too much. There is not a rapper out there that drops other rappers names and high end brands more than the Game. He is thankfully not dropping Dr. Dre’s name as much as in the past.

This mixtape features a lot of big names also in the rap game. ( No pun intended) From the likes of  Snoop, Rick Ross, Fabulous, Fat Joe, Lupe, Pharrell, Lil Wayne and Drake. I found half this mixtape was total garbage but i mean 95% of all rap mixtapes are trash anyways so 50% isn’t too bad. Especially when the mixtape is 24 tracks deep. The best line from the mixtape is by Game in the track ‘ She want to have my baby- Ft Trey Songz’ Everybody fucking Amber Rose, is the pussy good? Only Kanye/ Camron knows.

The mixtape features a freestyle to Tyler the Creators ‘Yonkers’ track by rapper NoBody. In short Nobody has Noflow.

Another note i wrote down when listening  and i know i’ll get some hate for this but Snoop Dogg should of quit rapping after his first album ‘Doggystyle’. He hasn’t released anything close to that album since and his flow isn’t that good, lets be honest.

The three standout tracks for me from this mixtape are the following.

  • She want to have my baby ft. Tre Songz
  • Death Penalty ft. Fabulous and Slim Thug
  • Tonight ft. Mele

In the end the mixtape is pretty good for what it is. A Game mixtape. Download it. Bang your head to it for a few months then delete it off your itunes.

3 red bandanas out of 5.

RECAP: DAY OF THE DELI

Last night was the ‘Day of the Deli’ Exhibition at the soon to be demolished deli on woolwich st, west leederville.

I had never been there before but as soon i walked in i was hooked. From all the beautiful murals spray painted on the walls to all the artists work hanging up on the night and finally everyone’s dope friendly attitude.

You have to remember that people still live here, it’s their home and they’ve just opened it up for all the public to see and for that i have to give the highest props.

Along with the art exhibition were pop up shops from different local streetwear brands. These brands were my homeboy Dave from Anchored Produce  , new cats on the block Lucid Youth and yours truly from Francesco Nathan. It was a highly successfully night for all three of us and I’m just really stoked at the positivity coming from people about local streetwear. A big thank you from myself to all the people who brought FN on the night.

Here below are some instagram photos i had taken on the night. For more photos from the night you can follow me on @francesconathan

DAY OF THE DELI

Last weekend Francesco Nathan had a showcasing at the event ‘ Day of the Deli’.

The event was a huge success with the day jammed back with great local bands.

This Saturday at 7pm the Deli will again be the host for an exhibition.

Francesco Nathan will also be having another pop up shop at the event along side my homie Anchored Produce .

I hope all you can come and support this unique event.

Here are some photos from the event last weekend.

For this weekend’s event details please follow the link here.

LISTEN.

This is the best 2pac album hands down. Way before all the west coast vs east coast bullshit. This is just pure OG Hip Hop.

A must listen if you’ve only ever heard 2pac songs like ‘California Love’ and ‘ 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted’

My 3 standout tracks are.

* Last Wordz ft Ice cube and Ice T

*Strugglin’

* Representin’ 93

CARBON 2012 RECAP

So i’ve just came back from a weekend in Melbourne for the CARBON festival ran by the guys from ACCLAIM MAG. I headed over to the eastcoast with Scott from Thinktank, Adam Del Borrello  and Daniel from Street X.

The weekend was great met some great guys like Alini from Triple Beam Distro.  Ate out at some great restaurants , did some shopping but i have to say Chapel Street you let me down seriously same shit in most stores, i did fall in love with a girl working at one of the stores but. Got way too drunk most nights but i was on holiday after all.

Now to the CARBON RECAP.

The event was pretty good some great speakers and some really fucking douche bag speakers. I actuarially got the most from the speakers that i hadn’t even heard of before the event.  Guys like Chaz Bororquez dude was legit, Nick Catchdubs who filled in last minute for fellow Fools Gold owner Dust La Rock and writer Joy Yoon.

The streetwear guys i went to see like Mega from Blackscale and Eugene from Hypebeast both did great speeches but i guess they just spoke about ideas and beliefs that i already know and believe in which is great as it just reconfirms my own self belief that i’m on the right track. Basically believe in yourself and be a creative not a curator. Just Do You.

I have to say that i feel really sorry for Yimmy Yayo. Trying to do your speech but getting stopped by immature grown men every two minutes and not losing your shit at them is proof of his good character.

I won’t mention these joke of men as they aren’t even worth me wasting the time typing their names. If i was Yimmy i would of lost my shit and stormed out.

My favorite speakers of the event in no order were:

Chaz Bojorquez

Nick Catchdubs

Eugene Kan

Joy Yoon

Yimmy Yayo

I did take some photos of my trip on my disposable camera. ( 4 stores and 3 blank stares on sales assistants face’s i finally found a store that still sold disposable film cameras.) But i still have like nine photos left so once i used them all up i’ll get them developed and post them up on the blog.

In the meantime here are some of my Instagram photos from the trip. Follw me @francesconathan

CARBON 2012.

Carbon is a festival of contemporary design, style and culture run by the  guys over at ACCLAIM MAG .

Held in Melbourne and based at Federation Square the festival runs for 3 days. Some of the speakers for the event are Eugene Kan ( Hypebeast) , Mega ( Black Scale) , Ricky Powell and 13th Witness.

I’ve been waiting to check out Carbon for a very long time and what a great excuse to pop my Melbourne cherry as well.

I’ll be updating this blog with all the happenings and going on’s at the event. Stay tuned.
